It saddens me to say that for the most part I agree with Bauerlein's argument that we are the dumbest generation. We have all of this incredible technology at our disposal, and most of us use it in completely non-beneficial ways. One of the reasons I agree with Bauerlein is that we use the technology available to us to make life simpler, because as a whole we are lazy. While I do believe that technology can be beneficially used to simplify life, I also believe that taking the easy route every time can be detrimental to growth as a person. Another reason I believe "The Dumbest Generation" may be a true statement is because more and more teens are becoming distracted by the technology that we have available. Going online provides endless possibilities as to how you can spend your time. I believe that a lot of teens, I include myself on some occasions, get distracted when online. Maybe you sit down with the intent of doing a project, but when you're bombarded with pop-up ads and marginal advertisements your mind wanders. Pretty soon you go from researching a project to looking at one of those ads or seeing what's happening with your friends on facebook. You need discipline to keep you on task, an incredibly difficult thng to do when on-line.
I find it even more sad that we are being referred to as "The Dumbest Generation," because we have the tools and resources at our disposal to be the most powerful and intelligent generation. If technology were integrated effectively into our education, and used as a means for us to grow in our intelligence, we would have a profound effect on the world. Students could have a massive impact on the world if they would use the technology at hand to do something great. When provided with such a great oppurtunity, why are so few individuals leaping at the chance to be outstanding?

I completely understand where you are coming from, and in a way I really agree with you. We do take advantage of all the great technology we have . I still think that we don't always and in a way we have accomplished a lot. I disagree because I feel like our parents are a little handy cap where we have to help them with technology, so how can they be so smart?
Even though I do not agree with your opinion that we abuse technology I feel that you presented your thoughts very well. However I do agree that our generation is not the "smartest" in that we have yet to use the technology to our fullest potential. I believe that our generation is innovative and will be very successful with all the tools we have.
I have to disagree with your argument. There is always a part of every generation that slacks off and doesn't live up to their full potential. I feel that that part of our generation is taking an unfair amount of criticism. So much, in fact, that the criticism is spilling into the rest of the generation.
Just because some of us don't use technology to it's fullest all the time, there is no justification to label us the "dumbest generation." We are no different in concept to the generations before us. It's only the practical reality that has changed.
Wow!! A whole 3 comments! Aren't you popular!
Well being serious now, I think that our generation defintely abuses our technology. We have so much temptations and distractions that it is a wonder that a normal teen would be able to do their work at all. Technology is great but it definitely has it's downsides. But like I said, I really don't think now is the time to judge us.
Everything you said I incorporated into my blog post as well. I find America is constantly going downhill intelligent-wise from luxuries made by incredibly smart people. As ironic as it sounds, these high-tech machines are throwing us deeper and deeper into a hole of becoming lazy.
I also admit as well that if I am online doing research on a project, I say to myself "Hm... I wonder if my friend ever sent back the comment I posted on his wall." Next thing you know, I'm on facebook being constantly distracted by IMs and conversations. The reality of it is students become distracted from something that they lack interest in. Even adults often do the same thing. It's just in our nature.
The more students push themselves academically, the more successful our country will be. Those who make it in life will revise our "dumbest generation", and those who subject themselves to luxuries will have low-standards in society.
